About This Committee

The International Women Lawyers Conference (IWLC) is AWL's most significant undertaking — a biennial flagship event that has, over five editions, grown into one of the most anticipated gatherings of women legal professionals in the Asia-Pacific region. It is where AWL's values of courage, resilience, and commitment are given their fullest expression: a full-day conference that brings together practitioners, advocates, in-house counsel, academics, and policymakers from across borders to speak honestly, learn deeply, and build the networks that sustain careers and fuel change.

The IWLC Committee is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of every edition of the conference — from conceptualising the theme and curating the speaker lineup, to managing logistics, securing sponsorship, arranging CPD accreditation, and coordinating the volunteer teams that make the day run. It is one of AWL's most demanding and rewarding committee roles, and the one that leaves the most lasting mark on the organisation's public presence.

 

Conference History 

Each IWLC is built around a central theme that reflects both the moment in time and AWL's enduring mission. Over five editions, the IWLC themes have traced a journey from establishing women's authority in law, through empowerment and resilience, to the bold declaration that the future belongs to women who lead it.

Planning for IWLC 2028 is underway. Members who are interested in contributing to the conference — whether in programme design, speaker outreach, logistics, sponsorship, or on-the-day volunteering — are welcome to contact the committee. IWLC is a whole-of-organisation effort and there is a role for every kind of contribution.
