Tan Sri Dato' Seri Siti Norma Yaakob

She went on to become the first Malaysian woman to be appointed a High Court Judge in 1983, a Court of Appeal Judge in 1994, a Federal Court Judge in 2001, and Chief Judge of Malaya in 2005, a position she held until her retirement two years later.

She was the first Malaysian to be elected President of the Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association from 2006 to 2009. After retirement, she was appointed Pro-Chancellor of the University of Malaya and joined the boards of several public companies, becoming Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mah Sing Group Bhd in June 2018.


AWL is honoured to count Tan Sri Siti Norma among its former Presidents and to have been led, at a formative moment in the organisation's history, by one of Malaysia's most distinguished jurists.

TAN SRI DATO' SERI SITI NORMA YAAKOB

Tan Sri Dato' Seri Siti Norma Yaakob [6 July 1940 – 13 March 2026] was a trailblazer across every stage of her legal and judicial career. Admitted to the English Bar in 1962, she returned to Malaysia and became the first Malay barrister in the country and the first woman to hold an executive position in the government's legal service.
