Rasamani Kandiah
President: 1991 - 1993
She attended pupillage at Rodyk and Davidson in Singapore, was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 1967, and was then admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 1968 following further pupillage in Kota Bharu and Kuala Lumpur. She built her practice through litigation and charitable work, becoming a partner at Khoo and Sidhu and later at Mohd Latip and Associates.
Rasamani was a Founding Member of AWL and served in a succession of roles: Treasurer from 1970 to 1978, Secretary from 1979 to 1985, Vice President from 1986 to 1990, and President from 1991 to 1993. She also served as Chairperson of the Law Commission for the National Council of Women Organisations and as a Member of the National Advisory Council for Women and Development.
Throughout her career and in retirement, she championed women's rights and the fight against child abuse, and in her final years devoted herself to raising cancer awareness among elderly Malaysians through the Malaysian Ceylonese Congress.
AWL remembers Rasamani Kandiah as a founding voice and a tireless advocate for justice.

Rasamani Kandiah [14 July 1945 to 22 October 2019] was a distinguished and dedicated member of the Malaysian legal fraternity, with a career spanning more than five decades. She completed her English Bar examinations in 1965 and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in July 1966. She subsequently obtained a Diploma in Shariah Law and Practice from the University of Islamic Studies in Malaysia and pursued postgraduate study in international trade.
