Jasmine Wong Kah Man

President: 2025 - present

Jasmine Wong

Jasmine Wong Kah Man brings to the presidency of AWL a rare combination of courtroom acumen, policy insight, and civic activism. Her legal practice has been defined by a commitment to citizenship rights and the prevention of statelessness, areas where she has secured landmark outcomes for some of Malaysia's most marginalised communities.

During her time at MahWengKwai and Associates from 2015 to 2023, Jasmine successfully obtained citizenship for more than a dozen stateless individuals through strategic litigation. She was part of the legal team involved in the Federal Court decision in CCH and Another v Registrar-General of Births and Deaths Malaysia (2021), a precedent-setting case on children's right to nationality. She has published a chapter on citizenship in Judicial Review in Malaysia: Case Commentaries on Key Topics (Thomson Reuters, 2024) and has written on citizenship issues in the Malayan Law Journal.

Beyond the courts, Jasmine has been a core member of the Malaysian Citizenship Rights Alliance (MCRA), contributing to the coalition's counter-proposal against proposed amendments to Malaysia's citizenship laws that threatened to entrench statelessness and restrict protections for the children of permanent residents, foundlings, and foreign spouses.

As President of AWL, Jasmine is focused on centring grassroots concerns, expanding AWL's pro bono work, and strengthening the organisation's engagement with youth and law reform. She was named to Prestige Malaysia's 40 Under 40 in 2020, recognised as a Rising Star by Asian Legal Business Malaysia in 2022, and awarded Woman Lawyer of the Year (In-House) by Asian Legal Business in 2025.
