Women lawyers represented 51% of the Malaysian Bar (“the Bar”) in 2013.
Statistically, this validates the position that the recruitment of women into the legal profession is fair.
Once in though, do equal opportunities abound and are their voices heard?
The Baseline Study on the Working Conditions of Male and Female Lawyers in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor is a project commissioned by AWL in collaboration with SUHAKAM (Human Rights Commission, Malaysia) and Women’s Aid Organisation, Malaysia (WAO).
The Malaysian Bar in supporting this Survey, has displayed its commitment to achieving equality within its ranks. This is heartening, for the Survey has raised many issues and provided much needed data that points to the uneven playing field for women within the profession.
